Climate change has become a strong force driving the evolution of technology. Concerns about it are moving the world away from carbon-based fossil fuels to cleaner alternative energy sources. According to a weforum piece, in 2025, carbon footprints will be viewed as socially unacceptable.

The figures equally tell a promising tale: Wind and solar, as an instance, grew at their fastest rate in two decades in 2020, and the amount of green energy capacity added in 2020 rose by 45% in 2020 to 280 gigawatts (GW), the largest year-on-year increase since 1999. What's more, the global renewable energy market stood at $692.8bn in 2020, representing a breaking growth of 8.9% between 2016 and 2020.

While this presents great opportunities for startups, VC-funded or bootstrapped, the average entrepreneur is equally not left out as there are a handful of ways to play along. Becoming a renewable energy entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to build a wind farm or a hydroelectric dam; green energy is more than just electricity generation. It is also about other forms of non-product-based services.
